Shelters

Phase One Shelter:

  • The beneficiaries of this accommodation establishment will be the destitute in the Ethekwini city center, regardless of race, culture, gender, language or religion.
  • Provision will be made for legally married couples, as well as parents with children.
  • At this stage, we do not envisage being able to accommodate children on their own, i.e. without their parents.
  • The purpose of this Phase One Shelter is to provide a clean, safe and affordable place (a nominal fee is envisaged) for the destitute to sleep and be provided with a nutritious meal.
  • The purpose is not to provide permanent accommodation.  Accordingly, we will endeavour to provide the basic necessities, but without making it too comfortable for the tenants to prevent them from wanting to stay here long term.
  • It is our intention to provide a nutritious warm meat based meal in the evenings, as well as a basic breakfast in the mornings.
  • Our vision is that this Phase One Shelter will only be for the genuinely needy that does not have alternative accommodation. We will endeavour to uplift them and encourage them to ‘move on in life’.
  • A building is required for the Phase One Shelter.  Once we have acquired this, the shelter will be self-sustaining (being funded by the nominal entrance fee as well as the financial support of the workers & their related churches & businesses).
  • Once the above is in place and operating, we plan to open a separate Phase Two type shelter, where certain individuals which we have identified at the Phase One shelter, can be accommodated with a view to counseling them, equipping them with skills and assisting them to be integrated into the mainstream economic life.
